The new Morgan Supersport 400 is the company’s most powerful car yet, and despite its modern underpinnings, it sticks with the a British automaker’s olde worlde styling.
Like the regular Supersport, the 400 is powered by a BMW ‘B58’ 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine.
While the standard Supersport has 250kW and 500Nm to its name, the 400 employs a more powerful variant making 300kW (or 402hp, hence the name) and 500Nm.

The uprated engine drives the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to its bonded aluminium platform, the car weighs just 1170kg.
This allows the Supersport 400 to complete the 0-100km/h dash in a claimed 3.6 seconds, or 0.2 seconds faster than the regular Supersport. Top speed has climed 23km/h to 290km/h.
A new high-flow active exhaust system is said to create a “pronounced and purposeful soundtrack”, while still being refined.
To handle the extra power, the Supersport 400 comes standard with a Dynamic Handling Pack, which includes adjustable Nitron dampers with 24 levels of adjustment and revised suspension tuning.
The 400 rides on lighter 19-inch forged Sportlite alloy wheels in either silver or optional dark bronze. Regardless of the colour, they are shod with 255/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres.
Other visual changes include vents at the top of the front wheel-arches, and a glossy satin grey finish for the lower body. New paint colours include Forged Grey, Silk Silver, Sail Silver, and Horizon Blue. A grey hardtop is an optional extra, as are coral accents for the exterior graphics, brake calipers and the cabin’s marquetry veneers.
Inside, the 400 features a unique stitch pattern for the doors, seat and transmission tunnel trim. While leather is standard, buyers can now opt for a variety of faux suede options, including single and dual tone, as well as a mix of leather and faux suede finishes.
Production of the Supersport 400 begins in May, and pricing in the UK begins at £112,965 (A$213,500) before taxes and on-road costs.
