After teasing its massive fixed swan-neck rear wing in July, Mercedes-AMG has now released the first official images of its hardcore racer for the road, Concept AMG GT Track Sport, undergoing track testing.
As you can tell from its title, the most extreme version of the second-generation (C192-series) Mercedes-AMG GT super-coupe released in 2023 remains a concept car.
But the German performance car maker appears certain to launch a production version of the camouflaged prototype you see here, as a direct rival to the hallowed Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

No technical details of the GT Track Sport have been revealed, with Mercedes-AMG saying only that it has completed its “first successful test kilometers” and that components of the concept vehicle “prove themselves under highly dynamic conditions”.
However, the Mercedes-Benz hot shop describes the Track Sport as a “future member of the GT family” and confirms it will be powered by a V8.
“With the CONCEPT AMG GT TRACK SPORT, we are once again exploring the limits of what is possible,” said Mercedes-AMG chairman (and Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach chief) Michael Schiebe in a press release overnight.
“We have a world-class team working on this concept with incomparable AMG spirit. It takes us to the physical and driving dynamics limit. We have a vision and make a promise: The future will be extreme.”
In the release, Mercedes-AMG also said: “The radical visual appearance makes it clear that the focus is on maximum driving dynamics, paired with intelligent lightweight construction and a performance characteristic that aims to explore the physical limits.
“The concept vehicle has a further optimized weight balance, AMG-typical V8 drive technology, and a sophisticated aerodynamic architecture.
“With the tests on the race track, Mercedes-AMG aims to validate all systems and complex components in interaction – under the toughest conditions and in compliance with the high quality and performance standards.”
Other than the big wing, few details can be seen in these arty teaser shots, thanks in part to full-body camouflage tape with red and yellow accents.
But it’s clear the next member of the Mercedes-AMG GT model family is based on the latest two-door coupe from Affalterbach, and will follow in the footsteps of previous road-going special-series AMG GTs such as the 2017 GT R and GT R Pro, the 2021 Black Series, and the 2022 Track Series.
The flagship 63 is the sole variant of the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT available in Australia for now, priced at $366,500 before on-road costs and powered by a 430kW/800Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8.
