Ford Australia says it hasn’t received much interest in a larger F-Series truck above the F-150, and therefore has no plans to introduce larger Super Duty pickups.
“Especially considering Silverado has HD and [Ram] has 2500 and 3500, I can honestly say we haven’t had much of that approach around ‘Hey Ford, is there any intent to roll through F-250 or F-350?” product marketing manager Peter Zikas told media at the launch of the updated F-150 range.
“So for us at the moment it’s F-150 and, I guess, Super Duty from a Ranger perspective to carry the big load in terms of capability.”
The relatively niche full-size pickup market in Australia is dominated by the 1500-class trucks, including Ford’s own F-150, the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500; with the Toyota Tundra also in the mix. Larger trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado HD and Ram 2500 account for less than a quarter of the segment’s sales.

Given increasing pressure on the segment from the Federal Government’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), and new challenges like fuel supply and volatile prices due to conflict in the Middle East, it’s logical to assume the already-small heavy-duty pickup market will continue to get smaller in Australia.
While the ‘Super Duty’ name in Australia is a relatively new addition to the top-selling Ranger dual-cab ute range, the nameplate has adorned the Blue Oval’s North American larger F-Series trucks since 1999.
Various body styles and sizes are offered, spanning from the F-250 pickup to the F-600 utility truck. Ford says its F-Series Super Duty lineup held more than 50 per cent market share in the American utility, mining, construction and emergency response sectors as recently as 2022, with the Blue Oval describing its heavy-duty trucks as the “tool of choice for essential industries”.
The F-Series Super Duty range went through its most recent overhaul for the 2023 model year, when it received a new ‘base’ 6.8-litre V8 petrol engine and a high-output version of the 6.7-litre ‘Power Stroke’ diesel V8, as well as Ford’s latest tech like Pro Power Onboard and embedded 5G connectivity.
Ford Australia has just launched the updated 2025/2026 F-150 lineup Down Under, based on the 2024 model-year range in the United States.
Headlines include enhanced technology levels, refreshed design inside and out, as well as a new range-topping Platinum version.
As before, all models are powered by Ford’s 3.5-litre ‘EcoBoost’ twin-turbo V6 petrol engine making 298kW/678Nm, driving all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. All three trim levels are available in SWB and LWB body styles, too.
The updated range launches off the back of a string of recalls and stop-sale orders for the pre-update model over the past 12 months, off the back of teething issues with its local remanufacturing program – based just north of Melbourne – as well as product recalls in its home market of the US-of-A.
