Let there be Luce!
Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle (EV) will be called Luce, meaning ‘light’ or ‘illumination’ in Italian, and the hallowed performance car brand says the new model “illuminates the path ahead”.
The Prancing Horse brand has not only confirmed the new nameplate, but also revealed the interior of its groundbreaking new model ahead of the unveiling of its exterior in May 2026.
The interior is minimalist, but not in the way many modern EVs are. There are various physical toggles, but the look is modern industrial chic.

That’s because Ferrari has been collaborating with LoveFrom for five years “on every dimension of the new car’s design”.
LoveFrom is a “creative collective” founded by Sir Jony Ive, best known for his work designing Apple devices like the iPhone, along with Australian industrial designer Marc Newson.
“Defying the convention that electric cars must be dominated by large touchscreens, many of the Ferrari Luce controls are mechanical and precisely engineered to be intuitive and satisfying by making every interaction simpler and more direct,” the company says in its press release.
“Inspired by classic sports cars and Formula One single-seaters, the interface is clearly organised and pared down to essential functions.”
Ferrari says it chose materials based on their durability, in particular embracing aluminium, and emphasised tactility and clarity in the design of the interior.
The steering wheel is inspired by wooden three-spoke Nardi wheels from the 1950s and 1960s, with the three spokes featuring a recycled aluminium structure that has been left intentionally exposed. It’s claimed to weigh 400g less than a standard Ferrari steering wheel.
Designers drew inspiration from single-seat Formula 1 race cars for the design of the steering wheel controls, with dials for drive mode and stability control selection, and buttons for functions like the indicators.
Ferrari says “every button has been developed to provide the most harmonious combination of mechanical and acoustic feedback based on more than 20 evaluation tests with Ferrari test drivers”.
You start the Luce by taking the key, made in Corning Fusion5 Glass with an E Ink display, and inserting it into its dock on the centre console, when the key changes colour from yellow to black.
The gear shifter is also finished in Corning Fusion5 Glass, with lasers used to make tiny holes in the glass half the width of a human hair to deposit the ink needed for the graphics.
Ahead of the driver is an instrument cluster, mounted on the steering column and moving with the wheel, which features three round displays closely mimicking traditional analogue dials.
The graphics are inspired by historic instrument dials, particularly Veglia and Jaeger instruments from the 1950s and ’60s.
Designers worked with Samsung Display engineers to create an ultra-light and ultra-thin OLED panel, and there’s more than meets the eye here.
“Three large cutouts strategically reveal the information generated by a second display behind the top panel, creating a fascinating visual depth that captures the eye,” Ferrari explains.
Each of these cutouts has a clear glass lens and is surrounded by an anodised aluminium ring.
The centre control panel is mounted on a ball-and-socket joint so it can be oriented towards either the driver or the passenger, and features a palm rest to make it easier to operate.
There’s a multigraph integrated into the central display with three anodised aluminium hands gliding over a dial protected by Corning Fusion5 Glass, and this multigraph can be used as a clock, chronograph, compass or for the launch control system.
Ferrari has sweated the details, even employing a new, custom typeface in the interior “informed by historic Ferrari type and Italian engineering lettering”.
The brand previously announced powertrain details for the Luce late in 2025.
Power comes from two Ferrari-developed e-axles – one up front producing 210kW, and one at the rear making 620kW – delivering a combined output exceeding 1000cv (735kW) of power in boost mode.
It’ll feature a huge 122kWh battery, with an 800V electrical system supporting DC fast-charging at up to 350kW.
The Luce debuts Ferrari’s third-generation 48-volt active suspension system, allowing independent adjustment at each wheel to enhance body control and ride comfort, and the brand promises a 47-53 per cent front-rear weight balance.
The brand promises a unique soundtrack thanks to the use of a high-sensitivity accelerometer mounted to the inverter casing to capture natural vibrations from the powertrain, which are then amplified through the car’s structure.
The Luce will comprise four seats and is expected to feature four doors, though examples spied testing have either been mules or extensively camouflaged.
Nevertheless, we know the Luce will sit lower than the Purosangue SUV.
Ferrari isn’t the first brand to use the Italian word Luce for the name of a vehicle. The other was Mazda, which produced the Luce from 1966 to 1991.
If the name Mazda Luce doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because it was sold here as the 1500 and 1800, and then later as the 929.
