The Volvo EX90 has been named Australia’s best luxury electric vehicle (EV) in the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards.
It beat out two finalists: the BMW i5 sedan and wagon, and the Porsche Macan mid-size SUV.
With the EX90, Volvo has tackled an under-served part of the luxury EV market: large SUVs.
Electric SUVs with three rows of seating are few and far between in Australia, particularly among luxury brands, where there’s only the much smaller Mercedes-Benz EQB plus the Cadillac Vistiq which we weren’t able to drive locally prior to voting.

The EX90 offers much of the goodness of its perennial and popular Volvo XC90 stablemate, but adds battery power. There’s a choice of two electric powertrains, both of which offer competitive performance and range.
The Volvo’s interior is pure Scandinavian chic, with a special look and feel. The luxurious feel extends to the way the Volvo drives, with comfortable ride quality and balanced dynamics.
There are plenty of features to satisfy even the most discerning of luxury-car buyers, particularly in the flagship Ultra with its air suspension and 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
With its high-quality interior, modern technology, well-sorted dynamics and that rare (for an EV) third row of seating, the Volvo EX90 is a superb luxury EV.
