The Ford Ranger was the best-selling car in Australia in 2025, making it the third consecutive year it has taken the number-one spot after relegating the Toyota HiLux to second place in 2023.
Yet despite that achievement, Ranger sales were down in 2025 and while Toyota remained the number-one brand overall, its sales were also down – even if only by a meagre 0.6 per cent.
In a market that climbed – if you can call it that – by a mere 0.3 per cent, six of the top 10 brands recorded sales declines, while the top-five best-selling models, from the Ranger to the fifth-placed Ford Everest, all sold in lower numbers year-on-year.
Here are the biggest sales drops for individual nameplates in Australia in 2025, per VFACTS and Electric Vehicle Council sales reports. Note this excludes vehicles that transitioned to a new generation during the year, or which were axed.

1. Lexus RZ (-80.9 per cent)
Have you even heard of the Lexus RZ electric SUV? Only 41 examples were sold in 2025, equating to a run rate of just 3.4 per month.
That makes it more exclusive than a Rolls-Royce, with a buoyant 67 ‘Rollers’ added to Australian roads last year. The mid-size RZ SUV starts at $121,000 before on-road costs, yet was even outsold by the $200,000-plus LC sports coupe.
Among electric SUVs, the RZ was overshadowed by the axed Audi Q8 e-tron (62 sales) and the newly launched Volvo EX90 (209) and was comprehensively outpaced by the BMW iX, which managed 417 deliveries.
Despite sharing the Toyota bZ4X’s underpinnings and offering around 500km of driving range, the RZ has failed to fire. An updated version due in Australia in 2026 offers a chance at redemption.
2. Kia EV6 (-80.5 per cent)
The Kia EV6 comfortably outsold the Lexus RZ that tops this list, but falling from 1785 sales to just 348 in 2025 is hardly something to boast about.
This decline may be attributable in part to the launch of the more affordable EV5 in 2024, which was Australia’s fourth best-selling EV in 2025.
The EV6 has also been overtaken by the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which uses the same E-GMP platform and electric powertrain, wrapped in distinct styling and priced higher.
While both models suffered sales declines, the Hyundai’s 626 deliveries in 2025 – a 32.9 per cent drop from its previous 933 – saw it almost double Kia’s result.
A facelifted EV6 is due here this year.
3. Genesis GV60 (-78.6 per cent)
A hotter GV60 Magma performance variant is scheduled to arrive in Australia in 2026, but sales of the standard electric luxury SUV are ice-cold.
The GV60 was Genesis’ best-selling EV in 2023 with 191 sales, before slumping to just 70 in 2024 – a 63.4 per cent fall that landed it on CarExpert’s worst-sellers list.
In 2025, sales fell even further to just 15 units – an average of 1.25 per month – representing a 78.6 per cent decline.
The last recorded GV60 sale in Australia was in October, with zero deliveries in November and December.
Like the Kia EV6, with which it shares its E-GMP underpinnings, a facelifted model has been confirmed for an Australian launch. However, despite having previously been confirmed for a launch during 2025, the updated GV60 has yet to appear Down Under.
4. Jeep Compass (-70.2 per cent)
If a compass is meant to help you find your way, the sales trajectory of Jeep’s Compass small SUV tells a broader story about the brand’s struggles.
With 147 Compass sales in 2025 compared with 493 the year before, the model suffered a staggering 70.2 per cent decline. It was Jeep’s slowest-selling model aside from the Avenger EV, which managed just 97 deliveries.
In 2023, the Compass was Jeep’s best-selling vehicle locally with 1455 units sold, itself down from 1862 the year prior – illustrating just how far the nameplate has fallen.
A third-generation Compass is due in Australian showrooms in the second half of 2026, continuing to offer hybrid power and adding a fully electric option.
5. Mercedes-Benz EQS (-70 per cent)
Introduced locally in 2022, Mercedes-Benz EQS sales have followed a dramatic downward curve: 70 units, then 67, then 20, before collapsing to just six deliveries in 2025.
Design chief Gorden Wagener, who announced his resignation from the brand last December, has said the EQS was ahead of its time and poorly positioned, arguing it may have fared better if marketed as an electric S-Class flagship.
Australian buyers instead preferred the related EQS SUV, which found 145 homes in 2025 to post 6.6 per cent year-on-year growth.
6. Ford F-150 (-67.4 per cent)
It’s one of the world’s best-selling vehicles, a true icon and, for many, the quintessential American pickup – yet Ford Australia just cannot score with the F-150.
It finished fourth among full-size pickups in 2025, beaten by all three direct rivals. The Ram 1500 led the segment with 2674 sales despite a 17.4 per cent drop of its own.
Adding further insult, the F-150 was even outsold by the significantly more expensive, hybrid-only Toyota Tundra, which edged it by just 45 units.
A series of recalls, a three-month supply pause between July and October, and a lack of updates while rivals refreshed their lineups all played a role. The first update since the model’s introduction is due in early 2026 and can’t come soon enough.
7. LDV Mifa (incl. Mifa 9) (-65.6 per cent)
A total of 14,907 people movers were sold in Australia in 2025 and of those, 170 were LDV Mifas, including the luxury-focused Mifa 9 EV. That represents a 65.6 per cent fall from the 494 sold in 2024.
This places the petrol Mifa ahead of only the Volkswagen Caddy and the Volkswagen Caravelle, though that result is skewed somewhat by the German brand’s transition to a new Ford-based replacement for the latter arriving in 2026.
In the premium segment, or what is referred to in VFACTS as People Movers Over $70,000, the electric Mifa 9 fared worst of all, selling just three units as new entrants such as the Zeekr 009 gained traction. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz led the segment.
In December, LDV said it had paused sales of the Mifa in Australia. The segment is only set to intensify, with newcomers including the Denza D9, Xpeng X9 and GWM Wey 80 locked in.
8. Tesla Model 3 (-61.3 per cent)
While sales of Tesla’s Model Y rose in 2025, ensuring it remained Australia’s best-selling EV, slumping Model 3 sales dragged down the brand.
The electric sedan slumped by 61.3 per cent or 10,477 sales to just 6617 units, though it remained Australia’s best-selling electric passenger car. The rival BYD Seal sat in second with 3784 sales, itself down 40.8 per cent as EV buyers flocked to the related Sealion 7.
The continuing decline in Model 3 sales comes despite a substantial facelift reaching Australian customers during 2024.
9. Audi e-tron GT (-60.7 per cent)
Audi’s futuristic electric sports car saw sales stall in 2025, with 33 deliveries a far cry from the 84 recorded the year before and the 339 achieved in 2023.
The e-tron GT shares its underpinnings and electric hardware with the Porsche Taycan. A mid-year update brought a $30,000 increase to the entry-level model, pushing prices beyond $200,000.
The Taycan also suffered a decline, down 37.6 per cent, but still managed 176 sales to more than double the Audi’s result.
10. Mercedes-AMG GT four-door (-60 per cent)
The flagship four-door from Mercedes-AMG recorded a 60 per cent sales decline in 2025, though the raw numbers tell a softer story, as it dropped from a low base of 15 sales in 2024 to six last year.
That followed 22 deliveries in 2023 and just one in 2022. While a new electric AMG GT built on the dedicated AMG.EA platform is due in 2026, the current V8-powered hybrid remains the most powerful AMG on sale.
Interest in petrol performance cars remains strong, with the updated two-door AMG GT coupe introduced mid-2025 recording 142 sales.
Mercedes-AMG has confirmed an expanded two-door GT lineup for 2026, including an entry-level four-cylinder GT43 and more potent V8 variants.
