The EVs with the longest range in Australia in 2026

Australia’s electric vehicle (EV) market is larger and more fragmented than ever, with new entrants arriving all the time.

As such, the benchmark for driving range has risen, and will continue to rise this year with the arrival of the new BMW iX3 (805km of claimed range) and Volvo EX60 (810km).

Until then, none of the EVs available in Australia quite manage 800km-plus, but a couple come close and more than 20 models can travel at least 600km between charges.

That long list of endurance machines includes both familiar nameplates and new players, with manufacturers from across the globe launching fresh EVs to combat the segment mainstays.

But before we give too much away, read on to find out which EVs top the range rankings in 2026.

Our range measurements are all based on the WLTP testing cycle, which is the most universal and realistic standard for EV range and allows for a direct comparison between each of the 10 cars listed below.

Tesla Model 3

When you think of EVs, you think of Tesla, so it’s no surprise the Model 3 tops the list of Australia’s longest-range EVs.

However, this hasn’t always been the case – the Model 3 has only sat atop the throne since October last year, when a new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant of the sleek Chinese-made mid-size sedan was introduced for the 2026 model year.

Priced at $61,990 before on-road costs, the new Model 3 Long Range RWD offers up to 750km of range on 18-inch wheels – 44km more than any other EV currently on sale. It’s also quick to charge and incredibly efficient – a recipe for hassle-free electric motoring.

And while the Long Range RWD doesn’t necessarily prioritise performance, it’s no slouch either. The 0-100km/h sprint takes 5.2 seconds, which isn’t mind-blowing by modern EV standards is remains quick enough to relegate many combustion-powered rivals to the rear-view mirror.

As for safety, the updated Model 3 carries over the five-star ANCAP safety rating achieved by the original in 2019.

Polestar 3

Polestar may have lost the driving range crown to arch-rival Tesla, but the 3 still remains one of just two models capable of travelling more than 700km between charging stops.

With 706km of claimed driving range from the second-largest battery in this list, the 3 Long Range Single Motor is also well ahead of the chasing pack, and cheaper than German alternatives at $118,420 before on-road costs.

The large Chinese-made SUV is also capable of outperforming the already impressive official claim – three professional drivers covered 935.44km to set a new range record for a production electric SUV last August.

However, don’t expect thrilling performance – the base Polestar 3 produces just 220kW of power and completes the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 7.8 seconds. Those after straight-line speed should instead consider dual-motor versions of the 3.

All version of this stylish SUV wear a five-star ANCAP safety rating, and Polestar backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. Servicing is free for the first five years or 100,000km of ownership.

Polestar 2

Rounding out the podium is the Long Range Single Motor version of the 2 – the entry point to Polestar’s model range.

Priced at $66,400 before on-road costs, the mid-size Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor liftback is significantly cheaper than its bigger brother, yet still offers an exceptional 659km of range courtesy of a smaller 82kWh battery.

And, thanks to its smaller footprint, the 2 boasts a superior claimed 0-100km/h sprint time (6.2 seconds) and energy efficiency (14.8kWh/100km).

As is true of the Polestar 3, the 2 is backed by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

However, it isn’t subject to the same promise of free servicing. Instead, you’ll pay $1131 to maintain a Polestar 2 over five years.

MG IM5

Built to challenge the best-selling Tesla Model 3, the MG IM5 arrived in Australia last year with an impressive set of specifications including 655km of range.

That’s achieved courtesy of a chunky 100kWh battery and aerodynamic design, while DC fast-charging also caps out at an impressive 396kW. MG quotes 15 minutes to charge the IM5 Platinum RWD featured here from 30 to 80 per cent using a DC charger.

Meanwhile, the mid-spec version of the large Chinese liftback also bests the longest-range Model 3 in terms of straight-line speed – the 0-100km/h sprint takes just 4.9 seconds (claimed).

You’ll pay more for the privilege, though, as the IM5 Platinum costs $69,990 drive-away (compared to $61,990 plus on-roads for the Model 3 Long Range RWD).

MG’s IM models are covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, but if you don’t service within MG’s network this drops down to a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Porsche Macan

The base ‘Macan Electric’ is the first 2WD Porsche Macan, and also the variant with the most driving range.

Priced from $128,400 before on-road costs, the entry-level version of the German luxury SUV packs a 100kW lithium-ion battery and a single, rear-mounted electric motor that produces 250kW and 563Nm – enough to haul this 2.2-tonne mid-size SUV from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.7 seconds. It’s also quick to charge as a result of 270kW DC capability.

Dual-motor versions up the ante on the performance front, albeit at the cost of efficiency.

All versions are covered by a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, which is short by industry standards, and unlike its key rivals Porsche doesn’t offer capped-price servicing.

The world hasn’t fallen in love with the electric Macan – the former boss of Porsche has gone on the record to admit the company was wrong to only offer the second-generation model as an EV, and Porsche now has plans to reintroduce a hybrid SUV to effectively replace the original Macan and be sold alongside the new Macan EV.

Audi Q6 e-tron

If the specs below look familiar, that’s because they closely reflect those of the Porsche Macan, which shares its platform with Audi’s mid-size electric SUV.

The pair also share a maximum claimed range of 641km, although the Q6 e-tron is ever so slightly less efficient than its twin under the skin.

It’s also slower off the mark than the equivalent Macan, with a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.6 seconds in base performance trim.

Conversely, this German SUV holds more appeal as an ownership proposition thanks to its longer five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and six-year capped-price servicing program.

The purchase prices of the Audi Q6 e-tron and Audi SQ6 e-tron include the installation of a 7kW AC home charger, and a one-year Chargefox public charging subscription.

Porsche Taycan

It mightn’t boast the longest range of the EVs sold in Australia, but the Porsche Taycan strikes the best balance between endurance and performance.

The mid-spec Taycan 4S offers 635km of range as well as all-wheel drive grip and the ability to sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.7 seconds, courtesy of dual electric motors producing 380kW and 710Nm.

This large German sedan ain’t cheap, though – the Taycan 4S costs $216,300 before on-road costs, and you’re looking at over $400,000 for the Turbo GT flagship.

But this 4S could just be the sweet spot, given its superior range and more than ample grunt. And good luck cross-shopping the Taycan, as external rivals aside from the related Audi e-tron GT are hard to come by.

However, as mentioned above, it’s worth noting that Porsche still offers a short three-year warranty and doesn’t advertise any service pricing.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS

You’d hope for decent range from a $300k-plus EV, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV provides just that.

To be exact, the Maybach EQS can travel 635km between charging stops, and can recover 80 per cent of its battery charge in 31 minutes at a DC fast-charging station, which is pretty rapid given its 116kWh battery – the largest in this list.

Propulsion comes from dual electric motors producing 484kW and 950Nm, with the 0-100km/h sprint dispatched in a claimed 4.4 seconds – not bad for an extra-large premium German SUV weighing in excess of 3000kg.

But that’s not really the point, given the Maybach EQS is focused on luxury first and foremost. That’s evidenced by the standard equipment list, which includes air suspension, leather upholstery, dual 11.6-inch rear passenger screens, a 15-speaker Burmeister sound system, and wireless headsets.

Based on the Mercedes-Benz EQS, the Maybach version also brings two-tone paint, unique exterior styling, and second-row captain’s chairs.

Renault Scenic E-Tech

The Renault Scenic is back, but not as you know it.

After previously being sold as a series of compact people movers and crossovers in the 2000s and early 2010s, the French-made Scenic now returns as an electric mid-size SUV with up to 625km of claimed range.

The base model can only cover 430km, but an upsized battery unlocks new possibilities for those who can stretch to the Long Range, priced at $59,990 before on-road costs. That makes it the most affordable model on this list, and likely the most family-friendly.

The Scenic E-Tech Long Range also features a single, front-mounted 160kW/300Nm electric motor, good for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

BMW i7

BMW’s modern day luxury limousine is a rare beast, but it’s not for a lack of capability.

The i7 xDrive60 can be driven up to 624km between charges, courtesy of a big 105.7kWh lithium-ion battery which takes just 34 minutes to replenish from 10 to 80 per cent.

Speed is also in strong supply – dual electric motors produce a combined 400kW and 745Nm, propelling the base i7 sedan from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.7 seconds.

Pricing starts at $233,787 before on-road costs for the entry-level variant, and extends up to $260,361 plus on-roads for the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive.

BMW offers a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, as well as six years of free scheduled servicing, which has an unlimited distance cap.
