Nissan Australia says it’s “ready” for the next-generation ‘Y63’ Patrol 4WD SUV, opening the door to an earlier launch Down Under if it becomes available before the current late-2026 timing.
Managing director for Nissan Oceania, Andrew Humberstone, told CarExpert the Japanese brand’s local arm is working hard to satisfy its strong order bank of the current Y62 Patrol as it heads for retirement, and is pushing hard to get the new Y63-gen Patrol “as quickly as [we] can”.
“I’m being greedy, I’m trying to get as much as I can, as quickly as I can,” Mr Humberstone said. “We have a strong order bank of Y62 and we’ve said we’re ready to receive Y63 as early as possible”.
“[I’ve said] if you can’t give me my Y62 incremental volume, then give me Y63 earlier. I’m okay with either because I’ve already got customers for [Y62], but if I’m not able to satisfy that then let me give them [Y63]. What works best for us is a combination of both.”

Mr Humberstone noted several macro factors that could see shifts in other markets and potentially help Australia get further up the queue.
“The global picture is ‘that’s the date’ (referring to the current late-2026 timeline). There’s so much going on in the world at the moment – wars in Europe, tariffs in the US, exchange rate fluctuation – if those macroeconomic factors influence other markets, I’ve said ‘I’m here… we’re receptive if you have a gap or a need.”
First launched in 2010, the Y62 Nissan Patrol remains in production alongside the new Y63 generation, which has been significantly overhauled in terms of design, powertrain and in-car technology.
Earlier this year, Nissan Australia gave the Y62 Patrol a significant interior update in line with the more modern cabin offered by the US-market Armada for a number of years, bringing new-generation infotainment among other enhancements.
While prices have risen both with the updated model and a running adjustment since in response to Australia’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), it remains sharply priced against its arch-rival, the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series.
The Y63 Nissan Patrol – likely to launch in Australia as an MY26 or MY27 model – swaps out the Y62’s 298kW naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8 for a more powerful and torquier 317kW/700Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6.
It rides on a new platform that is longer and wider than its predecessor’s, and there have been substantial changes in the cabin to elevate the Patrol to luxury levels of technology and ambience.
Headline features include dual 14.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment with Google app integration, as well as massaging seats and a climate control system that varies the intensity of the air-conditioning based on infrared biometric data that measures occupant skin temperatures.
All models in Australia will send drive to a full-time four-wheel drive system via a Jatco-sourced nine-speed automatic.
Nissan has indicated the new Patrol should retain its 3.5-tonne GVM and braked tow capacities.
