Home electric vehicle (EV) chargers are being offered from as little as $95 in southeast Queensland following discounts of up to $1100, thanks to funding from the federal government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
Available through Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), the offer gives customers discounts on smart EV charging hardware, with a single-phase 7kW charger priced from $95 and a three-phase 22kW charger from $379 after the $1100 rebate.
Customers will still have to pay installation costs, which vary depending on individual circumstances but are estimated by EVSE at between $1370 and $1470.
This brings the total cost to around $1415 for the single-phase system and $1849 for the three-phase setup, both of which are compatible with solar energy storage systems.
The subsidy is funded through an ARENA program and is available to households in southeast Queensland postcodes within Energex’s electricity distribution network.
The Energex network covers around 1.48 million households in the Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan and Toowoomba regions.
The offer is described as being available for a “limited time”, although no closing date has been announced. Instead, EVSE says a limited number of discounted installations are available.
The chargers connect to a Demand Flexibility Platform, allowing electricity suppliers to optimise charging according to network demand, which EVSE says helps improve grid stability.
“As the EV rollout progresses in southeast Queensland and across the country, we’re committed to providing a seamless charging experience for all – at home, at work, and on the road,” said EVSE CEO and co-founder Sam Korkees in a statement.
“This project is a critical component for consumers in the region transitioning to EV ownership, while creating further opportunity for flexible load control in support of grid flexibility.”
Earlier this year, ARENA committed an additional $13.6 million to Amber Electric as part of a combined $16.8 million investment in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
This followed a December 2025 allocation of $21 million under the ARENA Driving the Nation program to support the development of zero-emissions transport nationwide, including the establishment of a national vehicle-to-grid (V2G) network.
ARENA has also committed more than $18 million towards ultra-fast EV charging stations in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as $2.3 million for public charging infrastructure in rural and regional New South Wales.
The projects come as EV sales continue to grow in Australia, where the Tesla Model Y became the first EV to top the monthly sales charts across all powertrains in May 2026. It repeated the feat in June, when EVs accounted for a record 23.3 per cent of the total new-vehicle market.
