Gemini voice assistant confirmed for Polestar models in Australia

Polestar is the latest brand to start using Gemini as its voice assistant for its Android Automotive-based infotainment system.

The Gemini AI assistant replaces Google Assistant, and is said to be better at understanding natural language.

In addition to standard commands, users can access Gemini Live via the “Hey Google, let’s talk” prompt. With Gemini Live users can brainstorm with the AI agent, and ask follow-up questions.

We understand the upgrade is being pushed out by Google as an over-the-air update, so it’s unclear when owners will see the change, but the update will eventually be applied to all Polestar vehicles.

Locally, corporate cousin Volvo has confirmed Gemini will eventually roll out to all of its cars that have Android Automotive infotainment systems. Likewise, General Motors has commenced rolling out Gemini to the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette and the entire Cadillac lineup.

Other brands with Android Automotive-based systems, such as Honda and Renault, have yet to comment on when or if the Gemini upgrade is heading to their vehicles.

Outside of the above brands, drivers can already experience the Gemini voice assistant in their car if it supports Android Auto and they have an Android smartphone, as Google has also been slowly replacing Google Assistant with Gemini on the Android Auto smartphone mirroring platform.

At least for now, Android Auto users who aren’t fans of Gemini can switch the voice assistant back to Google Assistant via settings on their phone.

Has your Polestar, Volvo, Chevrolet, or Cadillac been upgraded to Gemini? How are you finding it? Let us know in the comments section below.
