The second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT is getting two extreme variants: a road-going Black Series model, and a closely related GT3 race car.
Teased by last year’s Concept Track Sport, the new Black Series is effectively a road-going homologated version of the GT3 racer.
New images of camouflaged prototypes of both vehicles have been released, with the disguise for the Black Series version featuring eye-catching yellow-green highlights, while the GT3 development vehicle adopts AMG Motorsport’s new red feature colour.

Until now, testing has been done on AMG’s Immendingen circuit, in addition to the Blister Berg, Portimão and Monteblanco racetracks. With development now entering a “new phase”, the two cars have begun blasting around the Nurburgring Nordschleife too.
Sadly, the confirmation of the GT3 and Black Series wasn’t accompanied by any details about the cars, but rumours indicate they will be powered by AMG’s latest flat-plane crank V8.
Zooming in, we can see the Black Series rides on 20-inch wheels with 325/30 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres up front, and 21-inch rims with 355/30 rubber at the rear.
Compared to the current GT coupe in showrooms, the Black Series/GT3 have much wider bodies, as well as a wild aero package with a large front splitter, a giant rear wing, and large rear diffuser.
The Black Series also has a series of flics on the redesigned front fascia, and a grille with thick vertical bars.
Other changes include a bonnet scoop, big vents on the trailing edge of the front fenders, side exhausts, fixed side windows, fuel fillers where the rear quarter windows would otherwise reside, and a series of intakes in place of a rear windscreen.
The regular GT’s flush-fitting pop-out door handles have been replaced by lighter, and easier-to-operate grab handles.
Release timing for the two cars hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it seems likely AMG is aiming to have the GT3 ready for the 2027 racing season, and the latest Black Series is likely to again be limited – an expensive.
Of the circa-350 examples of the original Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series coupes produced between 2010 and 2014, 10 came to Australia priced from $639,000 apiece.
And all 28 examples of the first-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series allocated to Australia were immediately snapped up in late 2020, despite a sticker price of $796,900 plus on-road costs – and resale values often exceeding $1 million.
The track-focused 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT63 Pro was launched in Australia earlier this month, priced at $418,900 plus ORCs.
