Victoria Police officers have caught a learner driver allegedly speeding at more than 220km/h along a Melbourne freeway, accompanied by a supervisor who had been disqualified from driving.
The L-plater’s Audi TT was stopped by Nunawading Highway Patrol after it was allegedly travelling at 226km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Monash Freeway at around 3am this morning.
The vehicle was intercepted near Jacksons Road in the south-east Melbourne suburb of Mulgrave.
A statement from Victoria Police said the 23-year-old L-plater’s supervising driver was already disqualified from driving, despite road rules requiring a fully licensed driver to sit alongside learner drivers.
Police impounded the Audi TT sports car for a period of 30 days, with impound costs of $1016.

According to the Victorian Government, the fine for a fully licensed driver exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h is $1018, having increased from $988 in July 2025.
Such an offence also comes with an immediate 12-month ban from driving.
Victoria Police says the learner driver is expected to be charged with unaccompanied learner and speeding offences. It hasn’t confirmed which offences the supervising driver will be charged with.
