Chinese auto brand GAC has today confirmed it will officially launch in Australia next month (November 2025) with a three-model lineup and a nationwide 30-dealer network.
The company also confirmed that while it will arrive here with three models – a pair of SUVs and a people mover, offering petrol, electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power respectively – its plan also includes a dual-cab ute to rival the Ford Ranger in 2027, as part of an eight-model range by 2029.
GAC is aiming for a top-10 ranking on the Australian sales chart by then, which – based on the new-vehicle market in 2024– would mean around 43,000 annual sales.

It hasn’t announced local pricing or specifications for any of its models yet, but more announcements are expected ahead of its official launch in mid-November.
GAC, which stands for Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), produces more than two million vehicles annually, in both China and Thailand, and has a design team based in Milan, Italy.
Globally, it offers three brands – Aion, the China-only GAC Trumpchi brand, and Hyptec, under which it launched its ‘SSR’ supercar – but models from all three brands may be offered here under the GAC name.
Spearheading the local launch will be the battery-powered Aion V, a mid-size electric SUV that will likely rival the top-selling Tesla Model Y. The Aion V is now in its second generation, with the latest version going on sale in Europe just last month (September 2025).
With a single electric motor producing 165kW of power, it offers up to 510km of claimed WLTP range, DC fast-charging for its 75kWh battery in as little as 24 minutes, and claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
In Europe, it’s priced similarly to rivals such as the Skoda Enyaq electric SUV, however, various tariffs and incentives mean that won’t necessarily be an accurate indication of its pricing here.
Opening the GAC range from launch will be another SUV, the petrol-powered EM Zoom small SUV, which will likely rival some of Australia’s cheapest SUVs, including the Chery Tiggo 4 and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Overseas, it’s sold with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, producing 130kW of power and 270Nm of torque.
GAC has also confirmed the plug-in hybrid M8 seven-seat people mover, which rides on a lengthy 3070mm wheelbase and is powered by a 300kW/645Nm PHEV system comprising a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 160kW electric motor mounted on the front axle.
It uses a 44.5kWh ternary nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack from Chinese manufacturer CATL, and offers up to 166km of electric-only driving range.
GAC will arrive in Australia in the same month as BYD’s premium brand, Denza, which will launch here in November with with a pair of large off-road SUVs, the Denza B5 and Denza B8.
GWM Australia has also announced it will bring another one of its premium brands, Wey, to local showrooms from mid-2026. Both new Chinese luxury marques will join the recently introduced IM Motor electric brand from MG.
