The Toyota GR GT sports car has been revealed in Tokyo with a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain capable of 320km/h, rear-wheel drive, and the brand’s first all-aluminium chassis – along with a race-going GT3 version.
Due for a 2027 release, the pair were unveiled via a livestream from Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji plant in Japan, where the electric Lexus LFA Concept was also shown.
The trio form what the automaker calls “the sports car apex” of its brands.
No pricing or showroom timing has been announced yet for one of the most ambitious sports cars yet to wear the Toyota badge – nor any plans for Australia.

Toyota Australia issued the following statement when asked if the GR GT will be sold here: “This is an exciting moment for Toyota with the GR GT concept unveiled signalling a thrilling future for the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand. Locally, we are currently evaluating our product line-up and will make further announcements in due course.”
The road-going Toyota GR GT two-door shows off the same ‘hammerhead’ front end used across the brand’s range – including the next-generation Corolla and new RAV4 SUV – with a long bonnet and front-mounted V8 hybrid setup.
Measuring 4820mm long – compared to 4379mm for the outgoing Supra – the GR GT is wider at 2000mm and lower at 1195mm, with four massive exhaust outlets at the rear.
Toyota said the two-seater was designed with a ‘driver-first’ approach, with the body shaped to meet its aerodynamic targets before other styling elements were incorporated into the exterior.
A focus on light weight and a low centre of gravity resulted in the brand’s first all-aluminium chassis, and the sports car will use carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) body panels – and a CFRP torque tube. Toyota says it’ll weigh 1750kg or less.
The company claims the GR GT will have 45/55 front-to-rear weight distribution, with 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres. There are Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, while double-wishbone suspension is employed front and rear.
The dry-sump, short-stroke 3998cc twin-turbo V8 hybrid will produce 478kW of power and 850Nm of torque “or greater”, according to Toyota, outstripping the 412kW/480Nm outputs from the 2010–2012 Lexus LFA supercar’s 1LR-GUE V10.
Toyota says the GR GT’s target top speed is 320km/h, making it the fastest Toyota road car ever – and only 5km/h shy of the LFA’s v-max.
Spreading mass across the car, the rear transaxle incorporates the wet-clutch eight-speed transmission to drive the rear mechanical limited-slip differential. There has been no announcement of a conventional manual gearbox.
The transaxle has enabled items including the battery and fuel tank to be positioned for optimal weight distribution.
The cabin reflects meticulous attention to achieving an ideal driving position, and is finished in red leather. It features a flat-bottom GR steering wheel with red stitching, behind which sits a pair of paddle shifters and a unique digital instrument cluster.
Ease of gauge legibility during spirited driving – with a Track mode among its features – is complemented by switches positioned near the steering wheel, again keeping the driver at the centre of the cabin layout.
The GR GT is equipped with adjustable stability control, allowing the driver to tailor power and braking modes.
The GT3 version shares the same V8, suspension, and key hardware with the GR GT road car.
Toyota said the GR GT and its GT3 racing counterpart were created to help pass on the skills developed during the LFA’s creation to a new generation within the company.
Toyota is pushing its Gazoo Racing performance arm as one of its five core global brands, alongside Toyota, Daihatsu, Lexus and Century.
This includes taking over as naming-rights sponsor of the Haas Formula One team, which will be known as Toyota Gazoo Racing Haas F1 (abbreviated to TGR Haas F1) from 2026.
In Australia, Toyota will enter the Supercars Championship in 2026 with the GR Supra, led by Walkinshaw Andretti United with recently crowned 2025 champion Chaz Mostert as its lead driver.
