2027 Nissan Patrol Pro-4X caught testing in Australia

A 2027 Nissan Patrol Pro-4X has been spotted testing on Melbourne roads, some 12 months ahead of its expected Australian launch date.

Despite the badges being covered, the left-hand-drive Y63-generation Patrol clearly wears the Pro-4X’s unique grille and front under-car armour – with a central silver-coloured skid plate mounted to a black panel on the lower part of the front bumper.

Designed for off-roading, the Patrol Pro-4X features up to 244mm of ground clearance – when the air suspension is set to its highest setting – with an approach angle of 33 degrees, a departure angle of 24.5 degrees, and a breakover angle of 25.5 degrees.

It also comes with 20-inch black alloy wheels, fitted with 275/60R20 all-terrain tyres, and an electronic locking rear differential.

The new Patrol is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine making 317kW and 700Nm, driving all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

While it’s believed the Pro-4X will form part of the Patrol lineup, Nissan says the model range will be official announced closer to its Australian launch.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the Patrol Pro-4X was owned by Nissan, telling CarExpert “all future vehicles for the Australian market, including the Y63 Patrol, are tested and tuned for Australian conditions prior to their domestic launch”.

It’s believed the new-generation Patrol Warrior – a more hardcore off-road version created locally by Premcar and sold through Nissan dealerships – will likely be based on the Pro-4X.

Compared to the current V8-powered Patrol on sale, Nissan says the forthcoming model is 35mm longer and wider, and features a ladder-frame chassis with 25 per cent more torsional rigidity and 57 per cent more lateral stiffness.

The 2027 Nissan Patrol is expected to go on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2026.
