2026 Subaru Crosstrek gets more tech, new colours for more money

Subaru Australia has confirmed running changes for the model year 2026 Subaru Crosstrek range, which is on sale now from $36,490 before on-road costs.

Prices are up by between $500 and $1500 depending on variant, with all models adding a new Emergency Driving Stop System as standard equipment, while 2.0R. 2.0S and Hybrid S models add a driver’s seat memory function as standard.

Further, new Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl exterior paints are available as options, while Offshore Blue, Sun Blaze Pearl, Oasis Blue and Horizon Blue have been discontinued.

According to Subaru, the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) acts very similarly to the well-documented Emergency Assist offered by the Volkswagen Group.

Should the driver become unresponsive while driving, EDSS will bring the vehicle “to a controlled stop while alerting other road users”.

The new safety feature requires the also-standard lane centring function active in order to activate.

While in Japan the Crosstrek is now available with an S:HEV ‘Strong Hybrid’ system which borrows Toyota tech, the more efficient drivetrain is still not confirmed for the Australian market.

Subaru Japan has made the ‘e-Boxer’ drivetrain from Australian-market ‘Crosstrek Hybrid’ models the standard powertrain option in the domestic market, with the S:HEV topping the range.

The latest Forester recently launched with the new S:HEV system, replacing the outgoing Forester Hybrid which used the same mild-hybrid 2.0L ‘e-Boxer’ powertrain as the Crosstrek.

So, as before, Crosstrek AWD 2.0-badged models are powered by a 115kW/196Nm 2.0-litre ‘Boxer’ horizontally opposed four-cylinder petrol engine driving all four wheels, while the Crosstrek AWD Hybrid range gets a less powerful 100kW/182Nm 2.0L Boxer engine with a 12.3KW/66Nm electric motor fed by a small lithium-ion battery pack.

All are equipped with Subaru’s ‘Lineartronic’ CVT automatic transmission, with combined fuel consumption rated at 7.2L/100km and 6.5L/100km respectively.
