2026 Polestar 2 gets more range, faster charging for no extra cost

The Polestar 2 has received a range of updates for model year 2026 (MY26), but it hasn’t become any more expensive.

The updated electric liftback range is now available to order, ahead of first customer deliveries in November.

The entry-level ‘Standard range Single motor’ variant has received the most substantial updates, despite remaining priced at $62,400 before on-road costs.

It swaps its 69kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery from LG Chem for a 70kWh NMC unit from CATL, bumping WLTP electric range from 546km to 554km.

While that’s only a modest range gain, there’s been a more substantial jump in its DC fast-charging rate. It can now be charged at up to 180kW, an improvement on the 135kW rate with the old battery.

At the other end of the lineup, the Long range Dual motor Performance is the only variant to receive a price increase, however, it now comes with the Plus Pack as standard.

All Polestar 2s get a new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor chip, which the brand says results in a smoother, more responsive infotainment system.

Exterior changes are limited to a new sandy metallic finish called Dune – replacing the old Jupiter finish – as well as available tinting for the rear-side windows and a new 20-inch forged alloy wheel design included in the Performance Pack.

Inside, there’s a new ‘bio-attributed’ MicroTech quilted upholstery in Charcoal, while Black Ash inlays are available with the Plus Pack.

That option package once again includes a 13-speaker, 600W Harman Kardon sound system which was missing for MY25.

A new option is a 14-speaker 1350W Bowers & Wilkins sound system, which costs $3500 but can only be ordered in conjunction with the Plus Pack.

Here’s the full list of what’s in the $4700 Plus Pack:

  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • 4-way power lumbar
  • Driver memory
  • Front cushion leg extension
  • Backrest storage nets
  • 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system

It’s not to be confused with the $1900 Pro Pack, which includes:

  • 20-inch graphite Pro alloy wheels
  • Black seatbelts with gold striping
  • Gold valve caps

Other options on the Polestar 2 include:

  • Climate pack (heat pump, heated rear seats, wiper nozzles and steering wheel): $1500
  • Pixel adaptive LED headlights: $1600
  • Rear privacy glass: $500
  • Bridge of Weir animal welfare-secured leather upholstery in Zinc: $4800 (requires Plus Pack)
  • Bridge of Weir animal welfare-secured leather upholstery in Charcoal: $4400 (requires Plus Pack)

The static prices across most of the range follows price cuts of $5000 announced last September for MY25 vehicles.

Despite sharper prices, Polestar delivered only 537 Polestar 2s in Australia between January and the end of July this year, down 48.37 per cent on the same period last year.

It was outsold by the Tesla Model 3 (4077), BYD Seal (1882) and BMW i4 (626), though it trounced the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (83).
