Honda Australia has confirmed its first electric vehicle (EV), the cutesy new Super-One revealed at this week’s Tokyo Mobility Show in Japan.
Measuring less than 3.6m long and 1.6m wide, the 2026 Honda Super-One will arrive in local showrooms during the second half of 2026, after the Japanese brand’s local arm completes “a local testing program”.
“Honda Super-One will launch with the benefit of local and international testing under its belt, ensuring its composed ride and handling, charging solution, and vehicle safety systems perform optimally in congested Australian CBDs,” the company says in its media release.

The Super-One Prototype is the near-production version of the camouflaged Super EV concept seen at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
It takes the torch from the now-defunct Honda e, pitched as an A-segment (micro/light) electric hatchback set to rival the likes of the BYD Atto 1, Fiat 500e, and Hyundai Inster in Australia.
While details are slim, the Honda Super-One will offer a Boost Mode where, “when the driver steps down on the accelerator, the power output surges instantly, and just like in a conventional engine-powered vehicle, engine sound fills the cabin in sync with the feeling of the gears shifting” – yes, that’s from the official Australian media release.
Honda adds that “compatibility to a range of EV charging solutions has also been an integral part of the [testing] program” in Japan, no doubt indicating the Super-One should offer AC and DC charging options, and potentially be compatible with connected charging infrastructure.
The Super-One Prototype is claimed to be all about driving fun, and the exterior has a sporty look to match. It’s tall and boxy like most kei cars, but it has a wide stance and beefy fender flares, as well as dark-finish alloy wheels behind which sit red brake calipers. Functional front and rear air ducts also help aero performance and cooling.
Inside, there’s eye-catching white, black and blue upholstery on the chunky front sports seats. The “horizontal orientation” of the dashboard, which also features blue accents, is claimed to “reduce visual noise” and opens up the driver’s field of view “to focus more on driving”.
The Super-One is basically a larger and more powerful version of the new Honda N-One e: – the new all-electric version of the Japanese brand’s top-selling kei car.
Kei cars are a tiny category of vehicles popular in the Japanese market due to their affordable prices and running costs, and they all must fit within a footprint of 3.4m long, 1.48m wide and 2.0m tall. Combustion-powered vehicles must have an engine with a displacement no greater than 660cc.
While kei-class cars aren’t a thing in Australia – at least if you don’t account for grey imports – we have received various models over the years which have been offered as kei cars in Japan. These include theSuzuki Jimny, Wagon R and Alto, and the Daihatsu Move.
